The mens 1’s traveled to Newcastle yet again for their 6th away game in 7 matches… with yet more availability issues coupled with a very early game ending injury to experience player John, the team soldiered on against Medics with 11. Something that is not unusual to us this season, we started on the front foot and took the lead after Luke won a short corner. After a charged down flick, the ball fell back to Josh who put it into the back of the net. After initially ruling the goal out… the umpires came to their senses, remembered the rules and gave the goal. Unfortunately after this a lack lustre display followed and medics took advantage of this by dominating the rest of the first half. Half time score could have been 1-1 or 2-1 can’t remember… but the game finished 3-1 despite us playing well in little spells, overall the performance was not good enough and a vast improvement is needed in the coming weeks. Josh T made some good saves and there was a strong performance yet again from Oli playing a midfield role which saw another MOTM display. We are a mixture of both younger and older players so very much a building process rather than short term success. We entertain table topping Newcastle 1’s in our first home game in over a month, looking for a similar display to the cup game loss against the same team. A loss that didn’t deserve the 6-2 scoreline and for 11 players the fight that day was unreal compared to recent matches.
