The men’s 1’s made the short journey to take on local rivals Stockton in what was sure to be an intense battle. The physicality of the game was evident from minute one and we weren’t in the mood to back down from the fight. We started the game brightly and had some great chances to take the lead. Eventually we did with George flicking past the keeper after some great build up play. The lead was short lived when a swing and a miss followed by a shot into the bottom corner got Stockton back level.
5 minutes before half time saw Muzzie get a green card for a mistimed challenge and before he even got off the pitch they had played into the D and won a penalty corner. A straight flick deceived Josh in goal and 2-1 to Stockton. However, we replied instantly with a great finish from Mikey. Half time and it’s all square at 2-2.
The second half was a tough watch for the travelling spectators (yes there was actually some!) Fouls for physicality were now only being blown one way, no winners for guessing which way… and Tom S received a card this time. The same strong tackles from both teams came in time after time but Norton couldn’t catch a break. Another penalty corner awarded and another flick, this time beating Josh on the post. We pushed for the equaliser but couldn’t break through and a couple of late chances missed by Josh summed up the game from a Norton perspective!
It’s always tough losing to your local rivals but as a team we build on it and look to improve next week when we take on Thirsk.
