Our ladies 1s faced Durham uni 5s on Saturday. Durham uni are usually a tough opposition so we had to be sharp and switch on from the start which I felt we certainly did, we absolutely dominated the first half. Last week I said it’s the best hockey I’ve seen us play but I think we went one better again! We just keep getting better and better at the moment which is fantastic to see. We are starting to play some really good hockey! Our first goal came pretty early on from Kait. Aislin made an early pass to her which allowed her to be 1 on 1 with the keeper. 1-0 up and our confidence grew even more. Our second goal before HT came from Amelia who had lots of feistiness in her upfront, an assist from Holly allowed Amelia to score a dramatic diving goal .
After half time we slowed down slightly (probably during to it being such a fast game) however we still held our own with strong defensive communication from Emma and Bea only touching the ball once the entire game. We had lots of chances on goal but Durham Uni’s keeper kept them in the game with lots of saves, including an impressive header dive on the back post. We kept pressing and our final goal came at last from Aislin with a fluky reverse assisted by Kait.
The work ethic on the pitch was amazing we worked really well as a team with 3 wins out of 3 in the bag in a new league! Keep it going girls big game next week against Whitley Bay 2s who came down from the league above.
